Teddy Presberg has been playing guitar ever since he had a thumb to hitch-hike his way into the downtown St. Louis jazz and blues scene. After a recent eight year stint in the West Coast music scene, Teddy now makes his home once again in St. Louis, Missouri. Teddy roots his music in improvisation, inspired by the moment and the audience. Often compared to the funky, soulful jazz musicians such as Grant Green and Eddie Harris, you also hear artists such as The White Stripes and Beck influence his sound. His music is fresh, ever evolving, and lays out his immediate and unfiltered response to our society and times. Teddy is known to St. Louis musicians for speaking his own language on the guitar. He’s not flashy with in-your-face chops. He can own one note, and with that note, you know exactly what he means. Teddy plays for the moment, never repeating himself – risking the falls to reach the musical highs. Late 2006 welcomes the release of Teddy’s debut solo recordings: “Blueprint of Soul.”

The album consists of songs written in a stream of consciousness, tracks done in one take, and unforgettable improvisational grooves. The result is a funky Friday-night record. From the liner notes: "...wrote this music on the spot. All of the tracks were done freely in one take within the spontaneous creative process: a moment, the muse, let it flow, hit record, funk it, press stop, overdub, and play it loud." In 2005, Teddy accompanied Garett Brennan on his highly acclaimed “Keep it Simple Tour” which was co-sponsored by the town of Alta, UT and the environmental friendly organic bar producer Clif Bar. The national tour included shared bills with artists such as Peter Rowan, Sonny Landreth, Keith Greeninger, Darrell Anger, Tony Furtado, Brandi Carlile, and The Everyone Orchestra. Currently, Teddy is performing in the Pacific Northwest and the St. Louis area, teaching music, and producing musical projects in the entertainment industry.

DEBUT ALBUM FROM PORTLAND FUNKSTER APRIL 30, 2007 BLUEPRINT FOR A NEW GROOVE Contact: Outright Music
info@outrightmusic.com PORTLAND, Ore. – This striking debut by Portland guitarist and composer Teddy Presberg is pure improv-funk, inspired by the City of Roses and produced in a most unconventional way. Presberg’s Blueprint of Soul is organic – no artificial ingredients. “I wanted to create something from the soul, a sound based on first impressions and inspired by the moment,” says Presberg. “I was going for something fresh, honest, and most of all, something funky that I could really dig into.” The final result is a fast and funky musical impression that pulls you so strongly into a Friday night in Portland that you can feel the rain on your cheeks. With a view of the gothic St. John’s Bridge outside his kitchen window in North Portland, Presberg transformed his dining room into a studio and created a musical impression of Portland. “All of the songs were written on the spot. All of the tracks and overdubs were done in one take only,” says Presberg. In a world of overly perfected pop music, you don’t hear that sort of thing – even on the indie radio stations. “Music is a reaction,” muses Presberg, “so why not keep your reactions as pure and natural as they can be. I’m not knocking the idea of a ‘second-take,’ I just wanted to go with my first response.” Accordingly, Presberg directed the flow of music and his guest musicians to recreate the city of Portland in spontaneous groove-based improvisations. Listen to “Foster Fatty,” (named after Foster Road) and you’ll feel the movement of a big-legged neighbor taking her daily stroll. You will hear the hip, yet dark and slick sounds inspired from the Burnside Bridge on “Beneath the Burnside.” Even a passerby’s methamphetamine jaunt from the infamous 82 nd Ave appears on “82 nd Ave Strut.” As part of an environmentally focused partnership with Three Pin Records, one percent of the album proceeds are donated to 1% For The Planet, benefiting the Organic Farming Research Foundation in Santa Cruz, California. Through additional financial contributions to The Climate Trust, the album is also a neutral greenhouse gas production. “It doesn’t matter what our profession is, we have a personal responsibility to reduce the negative impacts of our actions,” says Presberg.
